About the client
HUBER+SUHNER develops and produces components and system solutions for electrical and optical connectivity. The company serves the three main markets Industry, Communication and Transportation with applications from the three technologies of radio frequency, fiber optics and low frequency. HUBER+SUHNER products excel in excellent performance, quality, reliability, and long service lives – even under the most demanding conditions. Through a global production network, combined with subsidiaries and representatives in over 80 countries, the company is close to its customers worldwide.
The challenge
Faced with an increased need to harmonize its end-to-end (E2E) supply chain processes, HUBER+SUHNER reached out to EyeOn for support in enhancing their operational efficiency, improving decision-making, ensuring a seamless customer experience, and effectively setting the stage for a broader digital transformation. Key challenges to be addressed included inefficiencies in order execution and exception handling (e.g., cancellations or returns).
The company aimed to establish an integrated planning model to ensure consistent hierarchical planning principles and strengthen supply chain planning. A major issue was the lack of an integrated control model, which led to siloed operations, inefficiencies, and limited visibility between planning and execution levels.
Integrated planning model
Addressing these gaps was critical to align with HUBER+SUHNER’s broader strategic initiatives, including the shift toward a customer-centric supply chain supported by real-time analytics.
The project
HUBER+SUHNER partnered with EyeOn to address these challenges because of our expertise in supply chain planning and end-to-end process optimization. Our approach was divided into two main streams:
Stream 1: E2E Order execution & exception handling
We conducted a comprehensive assessment of critical processes, mapped the “as-is” workflows, evaluated roles and responsibilities, identified gaps, and proposed key improvement initiatives.
- Mapped as-is processes and identified gaps in order cancellations, availability checks, credit management, shipment tracking, return order flows, and engineering change notifications.
- Created process flows, RACI charts, SIPOCs, and an improvement roadmap.
- Proposed best practices and governance models for exception handling.
Stream 2: Planning Operating Model
We developed and introduced a structured HUBER+SUHNER Control Model, established clear hierarchical planning principles, created SIPOCs with key metrics, and aligned priorities into a detailed roadmap for planning transformation.
- Explained hierarchical planning principles and their benefits.
- Developed a structured HUBER+SUHNER Control Model to enable visibility and decision-making.
- Provided recommendations for segmentation, demand planning, inventory management, and MRP.
This project was executed in an intensive one-week bootcamp, involving key stakeholders from HUBER+SUHNER’s supply chain, sales, operations, customer service, procurement, and finance teams. The project delivered a clear, actionable roadmap to optimize supply chain performance and drive the company’s strategic objectives forward.
Results
In progress: building a stronger supply chain foundation
As a result, HUBER+SUHNER is currently implementing the defined work packages to improve process clarity, efficiency, and decision-making.
- Establishing clearer ownership and accountability for critical order execution processes to reduce inefficiencies and bottlenecks.
- Developing an enhanced planning framework that supports differentiated approaches for project-based and standard business processes.
- Strengthening alignment between Sales and SCM to minimize lead-time mismatches and improve demand fulfilment accuracy.
- Defining best practices for exception handling to enable faster resolution of issues such as cancellations, availability failures, and credit management.
- Creating structured segmentation and inventory policies to better prioritize demand and optimize stock management.
- Designing governance models for planning control to increase visibility and enable more data-driven decision-making.
These initiatives are laying the groundwork for a more seamless, customer-centric, and integrated supply chain.
