About the client
Our client is a global pharmaceutical company operating in a highly complex and regulated environment. With approximately 138,000 employees worldwide and annual revenues of around $89 billion, the company maintains a strong global presence with operations across multiple regions.
The organization manages a sophisticated supply chain characterized by high service level requirements and long production lead times, making inventory optimization a critical capability to ensure product availability and operational efficiency.
The challenge
The client had already implemented several OMP modules across its organization, forming a broad and integrated planning landscape. ‘However, the standalone inventory module in place needed to be replaced by an integrated OMP module ensuring continued maintenance and ensuring latest business requirements were met.
To support future growth and improve inventory performance, the organization needed to introduce a new OMP Inventory Optimization (IOP) module and integrate it seamlessly into the existing OMP ecosystem.
At the same time, the supply chain presented inherent complexity, including strict service level expectations and extended production lead times, increasing the importance of accurate and robust inventory planning.
Key challenges included:
- An standalone inventory module requiring replacement
- The need to integrate a new IOP module into an already complex OMP landscape
- A highly complex supply chain with long lead times and stringent service level requirements
- The need to align technical system capabilities with business requirements across multiple stakeholders
The project
EyeOn supported the client throughout all phases of the project, providing end-to-end expertise in both inventory optimization and supply chain planning.
The collaboration covered the full implementation lifecycle, including:
- Solution design: Translating business requirements into a scalable MEIO (multi-echelon inventory optimization) design within the OMP environment
- Process design: Defining and aligning inventory planning processes to support the new system capabilities
- Sprint testing and validation: Ensuring that the solution met both technical and business expectations
- Training and enablement: Supporting users in adopting new tools and ways of working
- Go-live and hypercare: Providing hands-on support during implementation and stabilisation phases
- Post-hypercare support: Ensuring continuity and long-term sustainability of the solution including active end-user support’ in different go-live waves.
Given the complexity of MEIO, a senior inventory expert from EyeOn was closely involved to guide decision-making and ensure that both technical implementation and business integration were aligned.
Results
In progress: establishing a robust and integrated inventory optimization capability
The project has delivered a strong foundation for improved inventory management and cross-functional alignment, with several key outcomes already visible:
- Bridging the gap between technical implementation and business requirements, ensuring that the solution delivers practical value
- Strengthening collaboration between business and IT teams, improving alignment and decision-making
- Supporting both technical implementation and process integration, enabling a more cohesive planning environment
- Delivering a successful rollout of the MEIO capability, with continued support to ensure stability and adoption
- Establishing the basis for improved inventory visibility, service levels, and supply chain performance
These results are laying the groundwork for a more integrated, data-driven and efficient approach to inventory optimization across the organization.
Implementing multi-echelon inventory optimization?
Implementing multi-echelon inventory optimization in a complex pharmaceutical supply chain requires both deep technical expertise and a strong understanding of business processes. By supporting the client across the full lifecycle, from design to post-go-live, EyeOn helped ensure that the solution was not only implemented correctly, but also embedded effectively within the organization.
